Children & Youth
The Good Shepherd youth program serves children of all ages through periodical Sunday School activities, special events and services to the church. Parents are encouraged to co-op with the church to provide an enriched learning experience for and with Good Shepherd’s youth. A nursery is provided as necessary.
Acolytes. An active Acolyte program is a special kind of service open to young men and women, usually ages 9 and older, appropriately. Two acolytes light the altar candles and carry the torches when the cross is in procession. A single crucifer carries the crucifix in procession and assists at the altar. Annual training sessions are conducted by the Rector.
Openings for volunteer youth leadership positions are now available. For detailed information about this service, contact the Rector at 325-646-8791.
Christmas Caroling. The Christmas Caroling program is open to all ages but is primarily a holiday youth project. Carolers perform at a group of pre-determined homes whose hosts have invited fellow parishioners and guests for refreshments and carol-listening. Good Shepherd caroling is usually held during Christmas week.
Cover Design. Age-appropriate children are selected to design the cover of the annual church yearbook/directory. When the book comes off the press, Episcopal church women host an autograph party in recognition of the young artist—attended by his parents, invited guests and parishioners. Refreshments are served in the Parish Hall after church on this very special distribution day. This autograph event is part of the Worship in the Arts program at Good Shepherd that also includes the historic scrapbook library,
Camp Crucis. The Camp Crucis Summer Camping program offers an outstanding Christian camping program for children and teens from all denominations and all walks of life. It’s a Christian community of love and fellowship where young people are encouraged to have fun and to Enjoy God. Several teenagers from Good Shepherd have served as counselors at Crucis. Episcopal church women support a scholarship program for those wishing to participate in this summer camp ministry. The camp programs seek to help to shape moral ideals, to instill positive values, integrity and strength of character. Experiences here are fostered through the leadership of a Senior Staff, volunteer counselors and volunteer clergy.
Camp Crucis is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Forth Worth TX. Crucis is situated on 140 wooded, rolling acres near Stroud’s Creek in the lake country near the historic town of Granbury. The facilities provide a quiet seclusion of a peaceful, natural environment—a good Christian Community place for nurturing, planning, reflection, discussion and sharing. Our own Rector, Father Andrew F.L. Bradley, serves on the administrative board of Camp Crucis.
